First-ever Southdown Festival being held this month

The first ever Southdown Festival is being held next week, featuring comedy, live music and a mini-beer festival.
The event will take place between September 14 and 16 across several of the area’s pubs, churches and eateries, including The Carpenters Arms, Jay’s cafe and St John’s Church.
Comedy night organiser Irvine Hunter said: “The good think is the festival has a Southdown identity. It includes some outdoor stuff at The Carpenters Arms, the bands are local - but we want people to come from all over. If you want a good time in Southdown, this is a great way to have fun.”
This is the first year the festival has been run and while most of the events are free, the comedy night, compered by QI panellist Cally Beaton, has almost sold out. Tickets are £10 from the venue.
