Archant

Having been around the exercise class block a few times, I thought I’d tried it all. You name it, I’ve sweated it. From the classics - zumba, circuits, pilates; to the more quirky - barre, powerhoop, pole.

So I jumped* at the chance to try out a new exercise class in Harpenden where attendees bounce on individual trampolines along to a upbeat soundtrack.

((BOUNCE)) is held at Wood End School on Yeomans Avenue on Saturday mornings and Monday evenings - the latter of which is more popular.

The dance choreographed session uses bouts of high intensity interval training (HIIT). The addition of gravity makes kicking calories three times faster than floor based workouts.

Trampolines are both fun, hard work, and mildly intimidating - it is not long before I am panting and sweating, and my calves are burning.

Mum of three Léla Hussein started as the in May this year after being introduced as a hobby by a friend.

She said: “Bounce is fun, friendly, and fierce, and we are child friendly, if you can’t get child care.

“I was very unfit having had three babies, but I came to bounce and was uplifted.”

She will be introducing an extra Thursday evening class in November due to popular demand.

Our session was taken by new-instructor Veronica Micheli, who was hooked on ((BOUNCE)) since she started in June.

She finishes the energy filled hour with some bicep killing lifty-things (that’s the technical name) and ab crunches. Getting into the swing of things, I do not notice we are finished until Veronica starts the cool down. Time flies when you’re having fun?

The thing that wasn’t fun? Waking up on Sunday aching all over.

No pain, no gain, right?
