This year's theme is Get Active, with energetic entertainment including an inflatable obstacle wipeout course, archery, and a zipwire to accompany the annual procession.

There will also be displays from local sports clubs, a motorbike stunt show, and musicians on the Main Arena and Main Stage throughout the afternoon.

Popular activities are returning, including ferret racing and the Savills Dog Show, but there are also new events on the High Street including a mobile crazy golf course and a Showtime Circus.

Work by local artists will also be exhibited, as part of an event called Art on the Common which coincides with the carnival.

It has all been organised by Harpenden Town Council and the Harpenden Round Table.

Harpenden Mayor Cllr Brian Ellis said: "The Harpenden Carnival is a wonderful summer tradition and the Harpenden Town Council is excited to continue our partnership with Harpenden Round Table to bring this fantastic community event to Harpenden."

A full programme for the event will be available at www.harpendencarnival.com in June.

The 2018 carnival attracted thousands of revellers and raised more than £24,000 for charity.

Fairview New Homes is this year's procession sponsor. Sales and marketing director for Fairview New Homes, Andy Georgiou, said: "As a company, we are always keen to support the communities where we build, so we are delighted to be part of this year's Harpenden summer carnival.

"The carnival is hugely popular within Harpenden and we're looking forward to what promises to be another wonderful family day out."

The Harpenden Carnival is free and will take place on June 8. The procession will start from Lydekker Park at 12pm and journey down to the Common.
