Our Starstruck Sunday series is putting the spotlight on some international icons and lots of unsung heros in the local community.
Stanley Kubrick is a legendary American filmmaker, well known for his controversial and often cutting edge films, who lived just outside Harpenden for about thirty years.
The photographer-turned-director’s portfolio boasts 13 feature films created over nearly half a century, including Lolita, The Shining, A Clockwork Orange, and A Space Odyssey.
He finished the movies Full Metal Jacket and Eyes Wide Shut in Childwickbury, where he lived.
Stanley died of a heart attack in his sleep at the manor in 1999.
