Harpenden can boast a number of celebrity residents over the decades, from musicians to comedians, photographers and presenters, and everything inbetween.
Our Starstruck Sunday series is putting the spotlight on some international icons and lots of unsung heros in the local community.
A household face from cult classic Red Dwarf and BBC’s popular Robot Wars, Craig Charles built his career up from humble beginnings in Liverpool.
He moved to Harpenden in the early nineties, after finding fame through his acting career and marrying fellow actress Cathy Tyson.
Speaking to The Telegraph, Craig said: “I went from being on the dole having nothing to becoming a “chap around town” in London with money burning in my pocket. I remember drinking in the Limelight Bar with Boy George, who was the biggest star on the planet at the time.
“We chatted away and I thought, ‘Wow, this is quite weird.’”
His catchphrase? “Let the battle commence!”
