Harpenden Village Rotary Club has elected a new president to help run its activities and events.
David Nye has lived in Harpenden with his wife Heather for more than 40 years, and takes over from the previous president Liz Jack.
He said: "Our best-known community event is the annual Classics on the Common. As well as raising substantial monies for local, national and international charities - £37,000 last year - the show offers a great day out for families and provides a boost to local businesses.
"New members are always welcome because they allow us to take on more hands-on activity locally - and there is no shortage of demand for that."
David is a chartered accountant, but has retired from active business. He is also part of the ministry team at St John's Church in Southdown, a lay canon of St Albans Cathedral and a member of Harpenden Choral Society.
