A new family restaurant bringing the flavours of Thailand to Harpenden has opened this week.
Giggling Squid, in Amenbury Lane, was founded by Thai-born Pranee Laurillard and her husband Andy and named after their nickname for one of their three children. The first restaurant was founded in Brighton, and there are now 28 altogether, serving authentic Thai cooking with an emphasis on signature curries and coastal specialities.
The Giggling Squid’s tapas lunch menu offers a variety of small plates including salt-and-pepper squid, Thai-style dumplings, ‘sleeping honey’ duck and lime and chilli beef.
There are also two-dish meal combos available and ‘tasting sets’ with four carefully selected dish combinations.
In the evening, guest can choose from dishes including red duck curry, Thai-style cod, black pepper soft shell crab and giant butterfly king prawn pad thai.
Families can also take advantage of the ‘Little Tapas for Little People’ children’s menu, which is designed to encourage children to be more adventurous with what they eat. The menu contains smaller versions of popular dishes including chicken satay, pad thai and mild Massaman chicken curry.
The Harpenden restaurant occupies two storeys and includes a private dining room which holds up to 14 people. There is also an outdoor courtyard with garden benches and cushions where guests can enjoy Giggling Squid signature cocktails.
