Care workers have flipped the usual Christmas traditions on their head this year by getting involved in a reverse advent calendar.

Employees at Home Instead Senior Care have donated food and essentials to a Harpenden food bank in the countdown to Christmas.

They wish to encouraging giving rather than receiving this yuletide.

Fal Patel, from Home Instead, said: “This Christmas, the team wanted to get involved in a local community charity initiative. As a local business supporting elderly people in the community, we decided to support our local Food Bank with a reverse advent calendar.

“Christmas can be a particularly difficult time for some families and we wanted to do our part in making Christmas a happy one for local residents who might be lonely or struggling with putting food on the table over the festive period.”

She said donations had “poured in” from staff and caregivers at Home Instead.
