A Harpenden park pond will be refurbished with the help of a grant from the National Lottery.

Harpenden Town Council received £10,000 from the competition's Community Fund to go towards the Lydekker Park refurbishment.

Friends of Lydekker, a local residents group, lobbied for the revamp with the aim of creating a more attractive space for Harpenden residents.

The works include replacing the damaged bank edges, creating a new nature habitat area, and the introduction of a wheelchair accessible, child-friendly dipping deck to encourage interest from youngsters.

The development is part of Harpenden Town Council's three-year business plan which aims to provide outstanding green spaces for residents.

Works are anticipated to begin in September 2019 and aim to be completed by November.
