A mum who collects gifts for people who would otherwise spend Christmas alone was shortlisted as one of Harpenden's most inspirational women.
Alison Turner uses Facebook group Harpenden Parents Network to request wrapped gifts, such as chocolate and gift sets, labelled for men and women, which she then donates to guests of the Salvation Army’s Christmas Day lunch.
She started collecting gifts four years ago, after her young daughter saw the sign for the Christmas lunch and asked if the guests would get any presents and, if so, from whom.
Alison said: “Every year the response has been amazing. Children have also got involved in choosing, wrapping and labelling the gifts.
“Feedback from the event is always heartwarming and every year the people of Harpenden have shown how kind and generous they are by delivering lovely gifts to me or directly to the Salvation Army.
“Harpenden Rugby Club has always been extremely helpful in collecting and delivering gifts for this event.
“For many guests this event is the highlight of their year so it is wonderful that they can take home one or even two gifts from the lovely people of Harpenden.
