Players from Harpenden’s Lawn Tennis Club are competing against the best amateur players in Europe at a tournament in Spain.
The club’s women’s 40s and over team has qualified for the 2018 European Senior Tennis Club Championships, which are being held from Sunday, September 9 to Saturday, September 22 in Murcia, south-east Spain, beginning at the La Manga Club.
A line-up featuring captain Gillian Brown and players Delphine Rive, Bridie Amos, Miranda Hosking and Monica Becarra will face opponents from Spain, Latvia, Belgium, Sweden and the Netherlands.
The event, which has been organised by Tennis Europe, will feature men and women from 50 tennis federations competing at the resort’s 28-court academy for titles in 10 different age categories.
Each country can be represented by a maximum of three clubs in every sector, with teams comprising between four and seven players in men’s categories and between two and five for women.
