An 11-year-old girl from Harpenden shaved her head to raise more than £5,000 for Cancer Research.
Margot Speirs, who attends St Nicholas C of E Primary School in Harpenden, decided to shave her head after twice previously donating her hair to the Little Princess Trust.
The idea came after Margot watched a US TV show called ‘Alexa and Katie’ with her older sister, which tells the story of a girl who shaves her head in support after her best friend is diagnosed with cancer. Margot’s hair was shaved off at her school by Alysia from The Hairdressing Company in Harpenden.
Her mum Kate Speirs said: “[The show] gave Margot the idea, even though she didn’t have a friend or relative suffering from cancer.
“The other occasions when she donated her hair to the Little Princess Trust, she didn’t raise money, she just grew her hair long twice to donate it to the charity that make wigs for children with cancer.
“She decided that this wasn’t enough and wanted to have more of an impact and raise lots of money.”
Margot has now raised £5,560 in total. To donate go to https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/margotspeirs
