A Harpenden football club is celebrating its girl power after reaching a milestone number of female members.

There are now 150 players in the Harpenden Colts FC Girls Section, and the club has a female team representing every age group from under eight to under 16.

The girls’ group has grown significantly from 35 members four years ago and there are now 10 female Colts teams playing competitively, including in the Hertfordshire Girls Football Partnership League.

Colts Girls section lead, Simon King, said: “The ongoing development of the Girls Section is a fundamental part of the philosophy of the club and provides us with the opportunity to develop the girls as individuals, as well as footballers.”

There is also a Developmental Squad aimed at primary girls and for the first time, a waiting list of interested players.

Harpenden Colts is a sister club of Arsenal Women FC.

It is run by volunteers - anyone who would like to get involved should contact Sharon Wyper on sharonwyper@aol.com
