Who does Harpenden want to see on the new £50 note?

Almost 50 of you voted in our poll last week on who should be on the new £50 note.
The Bank of England has announced a new version of the note will be made out of polymer and they are open to suggestions as to who should feature on it.
So we asked which Harpenden person or monument should feature on the new bill.
37 of you voted for it to feature former Harpenden resident and comedian Eric Morecambe, five of you said it should be Judy Fryd CBE, the founder of MENCAP, who used to live on Westfield Avenue.
Four people voted for Sir John Lawes, who founded an experimental farm which eventually became Rothamsted Research, and one person suggested comedian Richard Herring, who has lived in Harpenden.
Don’t forget to keep suggesting names and voting on the poll, which can be found on our Facebook page.
