A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held to mark the reopening of a Co-op in Harpenden following a £1.6m overhaul.

The new-look store in Southdown Road was launched on Friday, November 9 with the help of pupils and teachers from Grove Infants School.

Following the overhaul, the store will provide six new jobs, a range of fresh fruit and vegetables, healthy food, ready-to-go hot food and a Costa coffee machine, as well as in-store bakery and Post Office.

The Co-op is also donating money to Harpenden causes through its membership scheme. Local causes currently benefitting include Redbourn Scout Group, Roundwood Park PTA and The Grove School PTA, with Co-op members able to vote online for which group they would most like to support.

Store manager Angelo Imbriano said: “We are delighted to be undertaking such a significant investment in Harpenden and we’re confident that the improvements will help us to better serve the community. It’s an exciting time for the whole team.”
