April was sunny, dry and warm for the time of year, according to the latest figures from Rothamsted Research in Harpenden.

The average maximum temperature across St Albans and Harpenden was above average at 13.9C, while the average minimum temperature was below average at 3.6C.

The warmest day was Easter Monday (April 22), which reached 22.9C, and the coldest night was on April 13 when it dropped to -1.5C.

April showers were thin on the ground with only 13.2mm of rainfall, 41.86mm below average. There were 13 days with 0.22mm or more of rain, and no days with more than 5mm. The wettest day was April 2, with 2.6mm.

Sunshine was above average, with 191.6 hours. The sunniest day was Saturday, April 20, the day before Easter Sunday, with 13.2 hours, and there was only one day without sunshine.

There were seven air frosts and 16 ground frosts.
