We took a look at the highest-priced properties currently for sale in the town, and found that there were 50 with an asking price of £1 million or more.

Most expensive of all is a striking £4,350,000 home on Oakfield Road, in the heart of West Common. The five-bed property comes complete with its own cinema room, gym, sauna and games room with bar. As a bonus, the master bedroom has a luxury en suite bath and shower room, plus his and hers dressing rooms.

The next most expensive address is a very different proposition. Priced at £3,750,000, Mackeye End is on the outskirts of town, between Harpenden and Gustard Wood.

What this six-bed home lacks in leisure facilities it more than makes up for with its eight acres of grounds – home to a detached two-bed annexe, stable block, ménage and paddocks.
